JAKARTA | KBA – Legal observer and former head of the Anies-Muhaimin (Amin) Legal Team, Dr. Ari Yusuf Amir, said that Anies Baswedan remained calm after not being nominated by PDI Perjuangan for the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election at the last moment. Besides, Anies was asked to maintain his stance to continue promoting reform and to remain confident that what happened to him was for the best.
“Anies, I believe, will just take it easy. Efforts have been made to the best of our ability. But the outcome is different. We believe that God must have a better plan. No need to worry,” said Ari Yusuf Amir in a conversation with KBA News in Mampang, Thursday, August 29, 2024.
According to Ari, by not being able to run in the Jakarta gubernatorial election, Anies is actually saved to remain steadfast in his initial ideals, like the ideas he carried since becoming governor until running in the 2024 presidential election.
“Anies has shown an example of how to practice ideal politics, such as the idea of carrying politics as a noble idea and practice, fighting against money politics, and upholding ethics in politics,” he said.
In other words, Ari continued, the public already knows how valuable Anies is. The people of Jakarta support him. “Just look at the latest surveys in Jakarta. Anies is the highest in all surveys. He failed to run because he was indeed obstructed by those in power.”
“Everyone knows PKB, PKS, and NasDem initially fully supported him to run again for Governor of Jakarta. But in the end, close to the nomination period, they were forced not to nominate him due to concrete obstacles. That is, there were parties continuously obstructing Anies from running in the election. Essentially, Anies was not allowed to run no matter what. The maneuvering was clear,” asserted Ari Yusuf Amir.
Why was Anies really obstructed from running in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election? Ari answered, it’s because, as governor of Jakarta, Anies was impartial in enforcing the law. Besides, Anies firmly stood up for the interests of the ordinary people in Jakarta.
“For instance, Anies took a firm stand on the project in Pantai Indah Kapuk which, after he was no longer governor of Jakarta, has now expanded even further. Even now, it has obtained the status of a National Strategic Project (PSN). Meaning, Anies couldn’t run in the gubernatorial election because there are powerful parties obstructing him,” Ari elaborated again.
Responding to the PDI Perjuangan’s last-minute decision to cancel Anies’ nomination, Ari stated that as a major political force, PDI Perjuangan must have its own calculations. Moreover, it has the full right to determine its stance.
“It’s not a problem that Anies was not ultimately nominated by PDI Perjuangan. Perhaps they have their ‘deal’ and their own calculations. That is the right of that party which cannot be interfered with. We respect and honor PDI Perjuangan’s decision regarding Anies. What’s essential as believers, Anies has tried. Well, even if the results are not yet successful, we are still happy, pray, and think positively. Again, we believe it is a beautiful decision for Anies. God is certainly good, and he already has another plan,” concluded Ari Yusuf Amir ending the conversation.

Anies Baswedan said that not running in the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) is the best outcome. He only enjoys the process as a spiritual journey.
“Yes, I am experiencing this, all of it as a spiritual journey to be enjoyed, grateful whatever the outcome is definitely the best given by Allah,” said Anies to the media waiting at his residence in Lebak Bulus Dalam, Fatmawati, South Jakarta, Friday, August 30, 2024.
Then he considered whatever results he has witnessed along the way to be the best at this time.
“So when then we see results like now, yes I believe this is definitely the best,” said Anies.
He also advised his supporters and asked to maintain a festive atmosphere of democracy by respecting and appreciating each other.
He wants democracy in this gubernatorial election to benefit the people, not political elites or the government.
“Anyway, for all of us, let’s continue to maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect, appreciation, a calm and quiet atmosphere, and we want this democratic process to end up benefiting the people, not just a few people, not beneficial to the elite,” he explained. (kba)
