JAKARTA | KBA – The decision by the General Chair of the DPP PDI Perjuangan Megawati Soekarnoputri to nominate her two cadres Pramono Anung-Rano Karno as the gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates in the Jakarta gubernatorial election 2024 continues to attract attention.
Because the electability of both figures is low, even Pramono is less familiar to Jakarta residents. Thus, they are almost certain to lose against Ridwan Kamil-Suswono who are endorsed by 13 parties from the Indonesia Maju Coalition (KIM) Plus.
It becomes even more questionable because the gubernatorial candidate endorsed by PDIP is a close associate of Joko Widodo, even his nomination had the blessing of the President of Indonesia. Given that Pramono Anung currently serves as Cabinet Secretary. Moreover, the Palace did not require Pramono to resign from his current position.
Therefore, nominating Pram-Rano is the same as facilitating the scenario of Jokowi and the elected president Prabowo Subianto, who from the beginning championed the nomination of Ridwan Kamil in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Although, PDIP was previously ostracized by parties supporting Jokowi and Prabowo who are part of KIM Plus. So it could hardly nominate because it did not have a coalition partner as KIM Plus had bought out all parties.
The party symbolized by the bull’s head could finally nominate without forming a coalition only because the sudden issuance of MK decision number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 related to the lawsuit against the Regional Elections Law which lowered the candidacy threshold.
“PDIP ended up nominating its own cadre ready to lose. Not to win. Yes, that’s PDIP whose decisive power is surrendered to its general chair Megawati Soekarnoputri. Just to inaugurate RK Suswono again. The Jokowi-Prabowo scenario is achieved,” said former Projo Secretary General, Guntur Siregar, to KBA News Thursday, August 29, 2024.
According to him, if PDIP wanted to win the Jakarta gubernatorial election 2024, it should have nominated Anies Baswedan. Not only because Anies has proven successful in developing Jakarta and the public support for him to become governor again is very large, but also because of the shared fate. Like PDIP which tried to be ostracized, Anies was also continuously thwarted by the regime so he could not sail.
Political analyst from Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Nur Hidayat Sardini, also questioned the same thing. According to him, Megawati’s decision is strange. Because Mega and PDIP have repeatedly expressed their frustration with President Jokowi’s political moves.
But, in the candidacy for the Jakarta election, they immediately lifted Pramono as a candidate for the DKI Jakarta election along with Rano Karno, and at the same time rejected Anies, he said cited by KBA News from his X account, this morning.
