YOGYAKARTA | KBA PDI Anies Baswedan has confirmed he will not be running in the Jakarta Special Region (DKJ) or West Java gubernatorial elections, despite being endorsed by some political parties.
After the official registration of candidates closed on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 23:59 WIB, many people wondered what steps Anies would take next. Whether the Governor of Jakarta from 2017-2022 would work abroad or remain in Indonesia.
Anies admitted that he has often been advised to pursue a career overseas. However, he insists on continuing to work within the country.
“There have been suggestions to work at international institutions or teach at universities abroad. I say no. God willing, no,” Anies stated through his YouTube broadcast “Anies’s Notes Post-Presidential Election and 2024 Local Election Registration” as quoted by KBA News, Thursday, August 30, 2024.
This husband of Fery Farhati emphasized that he would continue to work in Indonesia due to his love for the homeland. “I love Indonesia unconditionally,” said Anies.
Anies said his patriotism stems from being born and raised in Indonesia. “My love for Indonesia makes it impossible for me to leave this land,” he asserted.
The former Rector of Paramadina Jakarta expressed his desire to remain in Indonesia with the people to make this country better. “I will not leave Indonesia and work elsewhere just because of the situation I face,” he explained.
Anies prefers to continue fighting with the community to achieve a better Indonesia. Of course, Anies will be active in many places. “But the base remains here, working and fighting with fellow countrymen. God willing, this will be my commitment moving forward,” he firmly stated. (kba)
