Tebet Eco Park in the South Jakarta area is the third grande (large) Taman Maju Bersama (TMB) to be revitalized after TMB Mataram and TMB Puring. Revitalization planning begins by listening to residents’ aspirations regarding their needs regarding the arrangement of this park. The result is the availability of various social spaces, businesses, and children’s play spaces.
The concept of Tebet Eco Park has a vision to restore the function of the park in an ecological manner. This ecological restoration in Tebet Park changes the function of the gray space in the park into active green or green open space and blue open space or blue open space.
Governor Anies Baswedan hopes that the concept promoted by Tebet Eco Park will serve as an example for the creation of similar parks throughout the Jakarta area, and even other regions in Indonesia.
JAKARTA | KBA – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan shared a story related to a visit to Tebet Park which is being revitalized into Tebet Eco Park. His visit was welcomed by the Head of the DKI Parks and Forests Service, Suzi Marsitawati.
“New year, new garden. Last Sunday with Mikail visited Tebet Park which is being revitalized into Tebet Eco Park,” Anies wrote on Instagram, quoted by KBA News in Jakarta, Monday, January 10, 2022.
Anies explained that the concept of the Tebet Eco Park was carried out in a revitalization project with a vision to restore the function of the park in an ecological manner. This ecological restoration in Tebet Park changes the function of the gray space in the park into active green or green open space and blue open space or blue open space.
Eight excellent facilities
As in Tebet Eco Park, there is a river that connects to the two Tebet parks but is blocked by a highway. So Anies wants to make a garden that can control flooding to accommodate rainwater.
“As a response to the problem of controlling nature, especially floods and water crises. Restoring natural rocks and plants, garden animals, as well as community accessibility to natural features in planting or what we usually call naturalization,” he said.
Public accessibility to the natural features in the park is through an infinity-shaped pedestrian bridge that connects two previously separated Tebet Parks. The economic and social problems of the surrounding community are also considered in the revitalization of Tebet Park. The design for the revitalization of the Tebet Park, begins with listening to the aspirations of the residents regarding their needs.
“The design for the revitalization of the Tebet Park begins by listening to the aspirations of the residents regarding their needs in structuring the park. The result is the availability of sharing social space, business and children’s playroom,” he explained.
Anies explained that the construction of the 7-hectare park will have 8 interesting places, namely, forest buffer, link bridge, community lawn, wetland boardwalk, children’s playground, plaza, community garden, and thematic garden.
During the last four years the development of Maju Bersama parks in Jakarta is not only for reforestation but also as a blue open space that can accommodate water.
“There are already several parks that are directed as flood control rooms, where now there are 94 points of Green Open Space which when it rains can accommodate 1.9 million m3 of water and can absorb water for 2-3 hours,” he said.
Seeing the enthusiasm of residents and netizens who asked when the Tebet Eco Park was open to the public, Anies asked to be patient. Now Tebet Eco Park is still being pushed to complete the construction as soon as possible.
“Please be patient, friends, at this time the Tebet Eco Park has not been opened. We continue to push the completion of the construction as quickly as possible. However, for the best results should not be done in a hurry. So that later visitors can enjoy the atmosphere of the park more comfortably and safely,” he concluded.
Multi-Function Park
The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta is revitalizing parks in Jakarta for Jakarta residents. One of them is a park located in the Tebet area, South Jakarta, namely the Tebet Eco Park.
Sunday morning, January 9, 2022, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan saw firsthand the details of the revitalization of the feasibility of the park infrastructure, which was previously known as the Honda Tebet Park.
This park is multi-functional. It has three main concepts in its development, namely prioritizing ecological functions, especially flood control, social space functions, and also the function of educational and recreational spaces for Jakarta residents.
“The development of the park which has an area of about 7 hectares is an aspirational park that involves knowledge, aspirations of local residents, and the location of the park. So don’t just build a park,” Anies Baswedan told KBA News.
Tebet Eco Park was also created by considering that it is safe to use by four groups of people, namely people with disabilities, parents, mothers, and children.
“My principle is this, if these four groups are taken care of, the other community groups will be safe,” he said.
Anies admitted that he wants Jakarta residents to have a green common space and get closer to nature to build interaction between Jakarta residents.
“We always talk about three interaction spaces, namely the house as the first room. Then the second room is the workplace and school. Meanwhile, the third room is an open space that can bring a feeling of equality, togetherness, and even closer to the environment, namely parks,” he said.
“That’s the reason why we encourage the development and revitalization of parks in Jakarta,” he added.
That’s why the revitalization of Tebet Park carries the concept of an eco park, not an eco garden. With the concept of an eco park, the park can not only be seen for its beauty, but can also be used as a space for social interaction for residents to create new experiences.
“I hope that the concept promoted by the Tebet Eco Park can be an example for the creation of similar parks throughout the Jakarta area, and even other regions in Indonesia,” said Anies.
Similar to ‘By the Bay’ Singapore
The Construction Management Team Leader from Disiplan Consult Sutarno said the concept of Taman Tebet Eco Park is similar to the park in Singapore, by the bay, the concept of a park that has a flood control system around the Tebet area.
“This concept is almost similar to by the bay Singapore, as a flood controller,” said Sutarno to KBA News.
That at that time, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan wanted to have a park that had a river naturalization function which was expected to be more natural as well as function for flood control.
According to him, before the construction of the Tebet Eco Park, the flood only receded for three to four hours. However, when the naturalization was expanded, the puddle of water had dried up for at most an hour.
“Before it was built it could take up to 3-4 hours, but when there is an expansion, the naturalization widening will take at most one hour. It’s dry, because the water has reached there (the river on the south side),” he said.
With naturalization by widening and changing the profile of the embankment, the river can become a retention pond when it rains.
He admitted that when it rains, the area around Taman Tebet Eco Park is no longer flooded, but when it floods, it doesn’t take long to recede. In just a matter of hours, the area was dry.
He explained, during the rainy season in December 2021, the flood near the Tebet Park area was about half a meter.
“There are no floods, if the floods also recede quickly. The last flood occurred in December 2021 when it rained heavily. Even then, the flood only lasted 1 hour. So this park is indeed effective for tackling floods, as well as for recreation and sports,” he concluded.
The construction of the Tebet Eco Park will begin in May 2021, then it will be inaugurated in February.
Infinity Connecting Bridge
Infinity Connecting Bridge connects North Tebet Park and South Tebet Park. Although these two parks are still in one location, they are separated by Jalan Tebet Raya.
Tebet Eco Park, South Jakarta, has features that are not available in parks in the Jakarta area, maybe even in Indonesia. In addition to having multiple functions, namely as a vehicle for social interaction, sports, education, recreation, and flood control, Tebet Eco Park has a beautiful and easy-to-remember icon, namely the Infinity Connecting Bridge.
The Construction Management Team Leader from the Disiplan Consult company, Sutarno, explained about the Infinity Connecting Bridge connecting North Tebet Park and South Tebet Park. Although these two parks are still in one location, they are separated by Jalan Tebet Raya.
“The height of the Infinity bridge, right above the highway, is about 5.60 meters. If passed, this connecting bridge feels wobbly. But it is guaranteed to be very safe,” said Sutarno to KBA News while accompanying the visit of DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to the park, Sunday, January 9, 2022.
He admitted that he had called a special consultant to ensure and handle the stability problem of the infinity bridge. After checking, according to him there is no problem.
“Indeed, yesterday we also called from a special consultant who handles the problem of bridge stability and it stated that there was no problem. Because the coefficient is still below the provisions, God willing, there will be no problems,” he explained.
For the capacity of the infinity bridge, which is dominated by orange color, Sutarno continued, it already has a very strong and safe construction structure.
“From a structural point of view, the strength of the construction is 300 kilometers per square meter. So, 350 kilometers per meter square is quite safe, meaning that when four people can stand in one meter, it is structurally safe,” he said.
Not only does the bridge feel wobbly, the south side of the stairs construction also feels wobbly when going up and down. However, Sutarno continued, DKI Governor Anies Baswedan asked for the position of the stairs to be like the north side that did not shake.
“Actually, the south side of the stairs is in a safe condition. Just earlier, because Mr (Anies Baswedan, ed) asked for the same as the stairs on the north side, okay, we will take action later to strengthen it again,” he said.
The Governor of DKI Anies Baswedan indeed had time to review and try all the infrastructure facilities at Taman Tebet Eco Park.
Anies started circling the jogging track, until he tried the infinity bridge. When climbing the steps of the bridge from the north side, the stairs look solid.
Meanwhile, when on the bridge, the bridge feels wobbly. Then Anies spoke with the Head of the DKI Jakarta Parks and Forestry Service, Suzi Marsitawati.
At Taman Tebet Eco Park there are also rides for children’s games from slides, wall climbing, and suspension bridges. (kba)
