Public transportation is one of Governor Anies’ successful priority programs, as evidenced when Jakarta was named the world champion of public transport integration at the Sustainable Transport Award (STA) event for two consecutive years.
If the ‘foot’ is the most important means of transportation as a gift from God, the bicycle is also an idol because it is a vehicle without pollution and is available at an affordable price, it was proven when Jakarta was awarded the ‘Bicycle Friendly City in Indonesia’ award.
Becoming a city for pedestrians and cyclists increasingly places Jakarta as a civilized city that loves clean air and the environment. Yes, Jakarta is now pampering pedestrians and cyclists with its extraordinary supporting infrastructure.
JAKARTA | KBA – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s policy of rearranging road pavements in the city of Jakarta received appreciation from the Indonesian celebrity, Septa Andrian. The man who works as a show host at various private television stations praised the current sidewalk concept.
According to him, currently he is very concerned about the revitalization of the sidewalks in Jakarta, both in the center of Jakarta to the South Jakarta area, such as in Kemang, Senopati, Tebet to Munawarman. For him, the presence of wide and pedestrian-friendly sidewalks should be increased throughout the Jakarta area.
“I am one of the people who are very concerned with the revitalization of sidewalks in Jakarta. Here I argue in a relaxed, polite and not emotional. Honestly, I’m very happy that more areas in Jakarta from Kemang, Senopati, Tebet and others are getting better and I hope Jakarta becomes a friendly city for all its citizens,” said Septa Andrian on his tiktok social media quoted by KBA News in Jakarta, Friday, January 14, 2022.
Septa also explained related to the many piles on the edge of the sidewalk. He explained that the pillars serve to protect pedestrians from public transportation, and also become a barrier for people who want to park their motorbikes on the sidewalk.
“Regarding the many piles on the sidewalk, it is indeed functioned so that pedestrians are safer than vehicles that usually like to pass by or people park carelessly,” he said.
So far, said Septa, there are still many motorcycle users who are not aware of indiscriminate parking. The reason is, there are still motorcyclists who park their motorbikes on the sidewalk. In fact, the neatly constructed sidewalks are intended for pedestrians, not motorcycle parking spaces.
“So the function of the sidewalk that has been built is sometimes the same as a parking lot. Indeed, from the driver’s side, it will be difficult to park, let alone a lot of piles. But, back to the main issue: which one should be prioritized, pedestrians or drivers,” he said.
For the host of this entertainment program, Jakartans must have high awareness regarding the use of private vehicles. The reason is, if the mobility of private vehicles continues to increase, then Jakarta will continue like this and there will be no changes.
“Because if the government’s policy focus is only on private vehicle drivers, both motorbikes and cars, Jakarta will be like this,” he said.
Quoting Anies, Septa agrees that one of the means of human transportation that has not been realized until now is the foot. With the development of humane sidewalks, Jakarta residents must take advantage of it.
“While all vehicles owned by people are feet, therefore the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government focuses on arranging sidewalks to be better and friendly for pedestrians and also with disabilities,” he explained.
“Until we often think for ourselves, if Indonesians go to Singapore or to Europe, walking everywhere is very comfortable, because the sidewalks are neat, clean, and safe,” he continued.
The number of users of public transportation, which has doubled in a year, has marked the increasing awareness among users of how important it is now to have a smooth, integrated transportation in Jakarta, which is proven to save not only time but also very cheap costs. With Rp. 3500 people can go anywhere up to the outskirts of Metropolitan Jakarta.
“If you take a little car in Jakarta, ride a motorbike, use your feet to walk on the existing sidewalks and remember that this is exclusively owned by pedestrians,” he concluded.
Best bike friendly city
Jakarta became the first city to receive an award as a Bike-Friendly City in the Metropolitan City category from the Bike to Work Community (B2W) community. The award ceremony was held at the National Library, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Governor Anies, who was present to receive the award directly, said that the Bike-Friendly City Award could be used as an incentive for local governments, especially the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to be able to innovate more and implement policies well for residents, especially for cyclists.
“Let me express my gratitude, appreciation, given for the collective work of so many people in Jakarta. This is not one to two years of work. This is a situation that we have lived in for a very long time, which we will continue, we will complete, and Alhamdulillah Jakarta is becoming more and more friendly for cyclists,” said Governor Anies as quoted from the Jakarta News.
On the same occasion, Governor Anies reaffirmed the commitment of the Jakarta Provincial Government in encouraging the conversion of transportation to the use of bicycles. One of the ways to do this is by prioritizing the development of city infrastructure oriented towards pedestrians, bicycles or emission-free vehicles, public transportation, and finally private vehicles.
He said the number of bicycle users in the capital city has now increased to 627 trips to support daily movement, sports, and tourism. Along with the increasing number of bicycle users, the Jakarta Provincial Government targets the construction of bicycle lanes of up to 190 kilometers (km) in 2021 and in 2030 along 600 km.
“The bicycle policy and the development of bicycle facilities that have been established by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government are one of the main parts to realize the commitment that Jakarta will become a Climate-Resilient City by 2030,” said Governor Anies.
Thus, Governor Anies hopes that the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030 and the ambitious target of reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent, as well as net zero emission (emission neutrality) in 2050 can be realized.
“Hopefully progress will continue in Jakarta and the entire territory of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Governor Anies. (kba)
