Anies suggests politicians and public figures may learn from the Minang community, West Sumatra who have different perspectives even though they are still in one group. This will improve political communication among the elites that would contribute to the problem solving facing the nation.
JAKARTA | KBA – Lately, there are many public figures who are anti-criticism, so the steps to avoid this criticism are by silencing the critics. In fact, criticism is one way to control the way the government continues to improve.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, does not seem to approve of this attitude of silencing critics, because for Anies criticism is an educational process for the public, and later the public will learn from what is conveyed through the criticism.
“Why shouldn’t this criticism be silenced, because that is actually an educational process for us. This is what we will hear later on in our fodcase, then watch on TV and others, they are actually in the process of listening, learning,” said Anies on the YouTube Channel ‘Total Politics’ quoted by KBA News in Jakarta, Saturday, January 22, 2022.
The former minister of education and culture said that if someone gets a chance to speak in public, what must be conveyed is fact, not fiction. Even though this fact is presented in the form of criticism, it is far better than having to be conveyed incorrectly.
“If we get the honor to speak, then respect our listeners by conveying facts, and conveying perspectives using facts, it’s okay to criticize perspectives but use facts, it’s okay to convey perspectives that support, it’s okay,” he said.
“What’s troublesome is that the perspective is criticism using fiction, it’s our trouble, if we use facts, it’s okay we can talk, that’s precisely what makes our nation more enlightened because he listens to different perspectives,” he explained.
Anies Baswedan explained, public figures have a lot to learn from the Minang community, West Sumatra, who have different perspectives even though they are still in the same group.
This custom of the Minang people has started since they were young, where almost every night they argue in the Surau (place for the Koran) with different views, but what is conveyed is fact and it is a false acceptance of the difference.
“Why in the past, the Minang community, for example, young people had varied perspectives, because they stayed at the surau at night, stayed at the surau and at the surau there was a debate, people came from everywhere who had different views, then the children.
“Young people listen there, young people catch it, but what are they talking about, facts,” he concluded. (kba)
