Anies won’t let anything or anyone get in his way once he is committed to a goal. He is also seen as a person who is responsible for protecting and providing for loved ones. His signature style is original, creative, authentic and out of the box approach.
THE good sustainability of a country is influenced by many factors. Two of them are management style and leadership style.
In general, leadership refers to an ability within a person to be able to influence others or integrate certain parties to achieve goals. Meanwhile, management is the art of organizing and managing something or controlling activities and regulating behavior so that it has a good effect.
The results of research by Muhammad Syukri Putra Krisnadi, a student of the Faculty of Law, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, published in the ResearchGate Journal in June 2021, stated that Anies Baswedan’s democratic and charismatic leadership style made his phenomenal idea, the Indonesian Teaching Movement a great success.
In the journal entitled Anies Baswedan’s Management and Leadership Style in Making Indonesia Better, Muhammad Syukri assessed that the movement was able to usher in change for aspiring young intellectuals in the future.
Anies’ democratic leadership style is associated with personal strength and the participation of followers in the process of problem solving and decision making.
Whenever there is a problem, always involve subordinates as a complete team. In a democratic leadership style, the leader provides a lot of information about the duties and responsibilities of his subordinates.
Associated with the Indonesian Teaching Movement, as a leader, Anies gives authority and broadly includes subordinates. In addition, he also gave a lot of information and responsibilities to his subordinates.
Any problems and shortcomings are discussed. Every teacher and staff is involved in solving problems. As a result, Indonesia Mengajar is growing rapidly and many parties are involved including young volunteers, students, teachers, and the general public.
Judging from the biography and ins and outs of Anies’ life, according to this research, leadership is applied along with trait theory. This theory believes that people who are born or trained with a certain personality will make them excel in leadership roles.
In the world of education, Anies has had brilliant achievements. In 2007, he was elected Chancellor of Paramadina University Jakarta. The youngest Chancellor, he was just 38 years old.
Under the leadership of Anies together with three assistant rectors namely Wijayanto, Totok Sofijanto, and Bima Santosa, breakthrough new programs were presented. Take, for example, the scholarship program, the establishment of various institutions, new think-tanks, quality research, and the first anti-corruption lecture held by a private university in Indonesia.
Anies’ idea about the Indonesian Teaching Movement was inspired by his experience while still studying at UGM in the 1990s. He learned a lot from the Rector of UGM for the 1986-1990 period, Prof. Dr. Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri, who is familiarly called Pak Koes.
In the 1950s, Pak Koes created the Student Recruitment Program (PTM), a program to fill the shortage of high school teachers in the regions, especially outside Java, where the education level of the community was still low.
Around 2009, Anies and his team started the concept of Indonesia Mengajar and tried it out. This was very well received by many groups including sponsors and scholars who had just graduated from well-known universities in Indonesia.
After being trained and briefed, the young teachers were placed in remote areas in almost all corners of the archipelago. Anies, who later became the Chair of the Indonesia Teaching Foundation, wanted this program to improve the quality of education and young Indonesians to become agents of change.
Anies, who is considered to have high integrity, is also trusted to unravel the tangled threads in the leaking of the Investigation Order (Sprindik) in the Hambalang Project corruption case on behalf of the suspect Anas Urbaningrum. Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abraham Samad appointed Anies as Chairman of the KPK Ethics Committee in February 2013.
After working hard, Anies and his team succeeded in solving this case and making recommendations to the anti-corruption commission.
In the world of politics, Anies’ career began in 2013. It started when the Democratic Party held a Convention for Presidential Candidates who would run from this party in the 2014 General Election. Anies, who is seen as a transformative education figure, was on the radar of the party chaired by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Considered leaving the world of education that had raised his name in order to compete in the event, Anies responded casually.
He was of the opinion that participating in the Presidential Candidate Convention held by the Democratic Party was only to fulfill the invitation of the convention committee. Even though there was a lot of ridicule, Anies admitted that he was ready and continued the process.
In 2014 as a political year with the Legislative General Election as well as the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election, he was appointed by the Presidential Candidate Winning Team and Candidate Vice President Candidate number 2 Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla, as spokesperson.
Then, Anies was asked to become a member of the Transition Team with the position of Deputy for the Transitional Team for People’s Welfare (Kesra). Anies focused on two main points of the Jokowi-JK campaign promise related to the complex problems of human development, namely education and health. Mainly about Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) and Healthy Indonesia Card (KIS).
In the Welfare Team, Anies has produced various discourses, solutions, and suggestions for policies for the Jokowi-JK government to be trusted as one of the President’s assistants.
After officially serving as the Governor of DKI Jakarta with Sandiaga Uno as his deputy, Anies tried to solve the problems of the capital city.
In accordance with his campaign promises, he has realized, among others, the construction of housing for Jakarta residents (House Dp 0 Rupiah), distribution of Jakarta Smart Plus Cards, and structuring the Tanah Abang area.
Name Restructuring Expert, Ni Kadek Hellen Kristy Winatasari once analyzed the fortunes of Anies Baswedan’s name related to the fate of his career as the number one person in DKI Jakarta.
If analyzed from the full name, namely Anies Rasyid Baswedan, he has a negative warning code according to the count (Warning Code). Meanwhile, conformity which represents the level of ease of a person to achieve success is only at 50 percent.
The strength of the name Anies Baswedan lies in the high actualization parameter. Subjects are usually tough in the face of various problems that hinder careers. Often obstacles can be turned into opportunities.
In terms of name, the former Minister of Education and Culture should be called Anies. The figure of Anies Baswedan from Hellen’s calculations is the type of person who is independent and brave. Anies has high self-confidence and is born a leader. Anies has original ideas and enjoys challenges.
According to Hellen, the difficulty that will be encountered is when harmonizing ideas with the ideas of others. Anies is also the type of person who insists on making his own decisions, wanting freedom in thought and action. He has passion and determination.
Anies also doesn’t let anything or anyone get in his way once he’s committed to a goal.
He is also seen as a person who is responsible for protecting and providing for loved ones. His character is creative, original, and has an unusual touch.
One of Anies’ successes that deserves appreciation is to unite the people of Jakarta who were divided because of the DKI Pilkada. Social cohesion and integration are realized, so that social conflicts, demonstrations repeatedly, and brawls between residents are rare.
Although at the beginning his leadership seemed rushed and his concepts were forced to fulfill political promises, in the next few months Anies tended to be more careful, mature in his actions, and full of preparation.
