JAKARTA | KBA – The coordinator of the Arek Suroboyo Spontaneous Movement (GASS) Herry Cahya Putra revealed the reason for daring to declare Anies Baswedan to run as a Presidential Candidate (Capres) Indonesia 2024 later.
“Anies Baswedan has been included in the criteria for an Indonesian leader that is expected by the community. Among others, religious, smart, humanist, nationalist, and patriotic,” said Herry to KBA News in Jakarta, Monday, January 10, 2022.
Herry said that Anies’ religious attitude was unquestionable. Anies was born from a good and respectable family.
“God willing, there is no doubt about Anies’ religion, his grandmother is a warrior and scholar,” he said.
While smart, he said, even that is no longer in doubt. Anies is a graduate from the United States. In 1996, Anies received a master’s program scholarship to Uncle Sam’s country. In addition, even in the leadership of Jakarta, he is often rewarded with various awards.
“Then how humanist is Mr. Anies? He departed from an educator. Of course it has a guiding character and protects all with the principles of equality and social justice. Not destroy,” he explained.
It is known, Anies is known as the originator of the Indonesian Teaching Movement, a movement for the younger generation to be recruited as young teachers in elementary schools and the community for one year.
Anies has also made many social justice programs for all citizens and religious communities in Jakarta.
For his nationalists, Herry explained, Anies Baswedan’s family are freedom fighters. Anies is the grandson of Abdurrahman Baswedan, a national hero. During his lifetime, he was known as a nationalist, Indonesian freedom fighter, diplomat, preacher, and also a famous Indonesian writer.
Furthermore, Anies is a patriotic figure. On several occasions, the former minister of education and culture in leading Jakarta, for example, has always shown a brave attitude in taking policies that benefit the small economic community without destroying the large economic group.

It was previously known that GAS had declared itself to support Anies as a 2024 Presidential Candidate. The declaration was made in December 2021.
According to Herry, the declaration is sure that it will not wither before it develops. And the volunteers emphasized that they would remain loyal to support Anies Baswedan until he became President of the Republic of Indonesia from 2024-2029. (kba)
